Retirement Hint? Australia Great Highlights Rohit Sharma's "Unusual" Act

The talks around India captain Rohit Sharma 's potential retirement from Test cricket have intensified with the team's bitter defeat to Australia in the 4th Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday. India's defeat in the match makes World Test Championship (WTC) qualification quite difficult while Rohit's form with the bat does make it difficult for the management to fit him in the XI. Suggestions are that the Sydney Test is likely to be Rohit's last in the longest format, and Australia great Justin Langer also spotted an 'unusually emotional' India skipper on Day 5 at MCG, hinting that the end is near for him. Langer said that Rohit was unusually emotional on the field at MCG on Day 5 of the 4th Test, which could be seen as a hint behind his potential exit from the format. The former Australia batter also feels Rohit is quite tired, with the stress of the game getting to his nerves. "Rohit Sharma looks very tired to me. I saw him quite emotion...

Rohit Sharma To Quit Test Cricket, Says Report. Announcement Likely On...

Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma is all set to announce his retirement after the end of the ongoing five-match Test series against Australia, according to a report by Times Of India . The report claimed that the BCCI top brass and selectors have already spoken about the decision and it is highly unlikely that Rohit will be changing his mind. While the exact time of the announcement is not determined, the report said that it will happen after the final Test match in Sydney. However, if India qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, Rohit may try to convince the selectors to allow him to stay. India skipper Rohit Sharma looked shattered as he confessed to being "disturbed" after the heavy loss to Australia in the fourth Test here, saying there are "things" that he needs to address at a personal level apart from the team's collective problems amid intense focus on his form. With 31 runs in six innings across three Tests, the Indian skipper...

Australia, Umpires Labelled "Cheaters" By MCG Crowd For Jaiswal DRS Drama

India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal 's controversial dismissal on Day 5 of the 4th Test against Australia has become a hot topic of debate. The incident happened on the fifth ball of the 71st over. Jaiswal was given not out for a caught-behind appeal, following an attempted pull shot. However, the decision was overturned by the TV umpire on visual evidence that the ball had changed direction, even though no spike was picked up by the 'Snicko'. Jaiswal expressed his displeasure over the incident as he was seen confronting the on-field umpire. It was a crucial moment as far as the result of the match is concerned, with Jaiswal batting on 84 at that time. Following his dismissal, India suffered a late collapse, losing the match by 184 runs. A section of Indian fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) weren't happy with the third umpire's decision. Chants of of 'cheaters' rang around the ground as Wilson was forced to change his decision. The Jaiswal dismissal. ...

The former India captain rolled back the glory days as he was actively involved in team discussions. Kohli, who stepped down as Test captain in 2022, was seen helping India skipper Rohit Sharma in making the field changes. He was also constantly on Rohit's ear as Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj stunned Australia's top-order. A video of the same went viral on social media. Watch: Bumrah's Ripper Shatters Konstas' Stumps, Don't Miss His Celebration

The Jasprit Bumrah vs Sam Konstas Round 2 turned about to be an thrilling one yet again after the first round was won by the Australian debutant. Up against each other on Day 4 of the fourth Test in Melbourne, Bumrah and Khawaja had fans glued to their TV sets early morning on Sunday. While Konstas didn't have to wait for long before opening his account, it was Bumrah who emerged triumphant in the individual battle, bowling out the young opener with a peach of a delivery. Konstas had no answer to Bumrah's inswinger as the delivery breached his defence and hit the middle stump. Usually a calm and composed performer, Bumrah produced an emphatic celebration after finding the gap between Konstas bat and pad. The marquee India pacer seemingly mocked Konstas, copying the latter's crowd-engaging act which he was doing repeatedly over the first three days of the game.  MIDDLE STUMP! India vs Australia 4th Test Day 4 Live Updates: Nitish Kumar Reddy and Mohammed Siraj didn't manage to hang on for long, with the all-rounder becoming the 10th wicket to fall. Pat Cummins, Scott Boland, and Nathan Lyon picked up three wickets each as India were bowled out for a score of 369 runs on Day 4 of the 4th Test against Australia at the MCG. It was Reddy's gritty century on Saturday that kept the visitors fighting in the game after Australia posted 474 batting first. Australia would now look to build on their 105-run first innings lead. ( Live Scorecard ) Here are the Live Score and Updates of India vs Australia 4th Test Day 4 - from NDTV Sports-Cricket https://ift.tt/29cqpME via IFTTT

Ravi Shastri Calls For Promotion Of Nitish Reddy In Batting Order

Impressed by Nitish Reddy's sensational maiden century, former coach Ravi Shastri on Saturday advocated for his promotion in the batting order, suggesting that a top-six position would provide better balance to India going into the fifth and final Test. The 21-year-old Reddy showed tremendous grit, scoring a dogged 105 not out at number 8 to virtually bail India out on the third day of the Boxing Day Test. "I feel that the way he's batted, this is the last time he will bat at 7," Shastri told Star Sports. "To get the balance of the side, you need him to go higher up the order, either 5 or 6 and then you have the opportunity of playing 5 bowlers to take the 20 wickets, and he's given that kind of confidence to the selectors and the team management and the captain." India's batting has looked brittle, especially with skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant struggling to score runs in the five-Test series so far. Throwing his weight behind ...

Rohit Career "Coming To An End"? 'Sad State Of Captain' Bombshell Dropped

Rohit Sharma is going through a tought time in cricket. While his captaincy during India's ongoing Test series against Australia has been receiving criticism, his batting has not been good either. He missed the first Test due to personal reasons and joined the team from the second game. Rohit scored 3 and 6 in Adelaide before disappointing with another low score, 10, in the next game in Brisbane. Come Melbourne and Rohit's poor form continued here as well. He was dismissed for 3 runs off 5 balls. What looked poorer was the manner in which he got out. It was a harmless short of length ball outside off stump from Pat Cummins , and Rohit, in an attempt to pull it, got a top edge only to give an easy catch to Scott Boland close to the mid-on region. Rohit has scored only 22 runs across 4 innings in the ongoing five-match Test series against Australia. Reacting to the batter's form, ex-Australia players Mark Waugh and Kerry O'Keeffe expressed worry for the India captain....

India vs Australia 4th Test, Day 3 Live Updates: Focus and pressure both will be on the pair of Rishabh Pant (6 not out) and Ravindra Jadeja (4 not out) on Saturday when the duo will resume the Indian innings at the score of 164 for 5 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Both Pant and Jadeja are new to the crease, having faced only 7 balls each. On the other hand, Australia will be keen to take some early wickets on the third day to put more pressure on India. On Day 2, India were in control at one stage, having scored 153 for 2, but Yashasvi Jaiswal 's run-out helped Australia bounce back in the game. Resuming on 363 for four, the home side were all out for 586 at Queens Sports Club in the southern city. Afghanistan were 95 for two off 30 overs in reply when bad light stopped play. The Zimbabwe first innings total was their highest in a Test, bettering 563 for nine against the West Indies in Harare 23 years ago. It was the sixth Zimbabwe innings to exceed 500 runs. Having made 145 runs on the first day, Williams added nine more before being caught by Rahmat Shah close to the boundary line off a Naveed Zadran bouncer.  His 154 overtook a previous best of 151 not out, also against Afghanistan, in Abu Dhabi three years ago. Williams, batting at No. 4, struck three sixes and 10 fours off 174 balls in a 266-minute stand in the city where he was born. It was his fourth century in six Tests.  H...

"A Disservice...": On Not Being Given A Farewell, Ashwin Has Final Say

Former India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has played down the idea of being given a big farewell, following his retirement from international cricket. A talking point after Ashwin's retirement was how it had come without any farewell or prior preparation, but instead was announced abruptly to the cricket world. Former India World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev had even mentioned that had it been upto him, Ashwin would've been allowed to retire with a lot of "respect and happiness". However, Ashwin has maintained his stance in quietly retiring without much of a farewell. "As far as I am concerned, grand farewells are wrong. I don't think you should give grand farewell ceremonies to anyone. Especially, I firmly believe that you shouldn't give me a grand farewell," Ashwin said, speaking to Tamil YouTuber Gobinath C. "I don't want anyone shedding a drop of tear for me. I think grand send-offs are part of a super celebrity culture," As...

Video: Kohli, Konstas Clash On Field, Umpires Intervene To Diffuse Tension

It isn't common for a debutant to play as fearlessly as Australia's Sam Konstas did en route to his 52-ball half-century against India on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. Konstas hit some exquisite T20-styled shots early in the innings to unnerve the Indian pacers, especially Jasprit Bumrah . Seeing Konstas bat in 6th gear, Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli looked to get on his nerves in the middle. In the first session, Kohli seemed to have given Konstas a shoulder push, with the aim being to unsettle the 19-year-old batter. Kohli, and Konstas' altercation in the middle became a heated affair, prompting other players and umpires to intervene. The move, however, didn't affect the Australian opener's mindset by any means, as he continued to bat with the same intensity, bringing up his maiden half-century. Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli, admitted to the ICU of a private hospital in Thane district, developed a fever on Tuesday, but his condition was stable, doctors treating him said on Tuesday. Kambli (52) is responding to the treatment for urinary tract infections for which he was admitted at Akruti Hospital near Bhiwandi town on Saturday (December 21), Dr Vivek Trivedi told PTI. Trivedi is heading the medical team that is supervising the former cricketer's health. Doctors were planning to do an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) on the former India batter, but since he has developed a fever, a decision on the non-invasive medical procedure will be taken later, he said. The MRI procedure has been necessitated after a series of medical examinations conducted earlier revealed clots in his brain, Trivedi said. Kambli is likely to be shifted out of the ICU within a day or two and discharged after about four days, he said. He said the condition of the Mumbai-based former cricketer wa...

Rohit Left Irritated By Fan's 'Gill' Request During Practice. His Reply...

Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma was left irritated by a fan's request during practice at the Melbourne Cricket Ground ahead of the Boxing Day Test against Australia starting Thursday. With the series tied at 1-1 after three matches, this match is extremely important when it comes to the World Test Championship (WTC) Final dreams for both sides. Just after practice ended on Tuesday, a female fan repeatedly urged Rohit to call Shubman Gill and said that she was his fan. In a video by Revsportz, Rohit was seen gesturing towards the fan to come back later as Gill had already finished his training. Kohli Labelled 'Bully' Over Argument With Female Reporter: "Berated Her..."

Star India batter Virat Kohli has been labelled as "bully" after his recent argument with a female journalist earlier this week. This comes after Kohli lashed out at Nat Yoannidis, a local journalist upon landing with his family at the Melbourne Airport. Kohli was seemingly unhappy with the journalist for filming his kids without his permission, citing privacy concerns. The 36-year-old had also warned Indian journalist in the past, against clicking pictures of his son and daughter. However, this rule doesn't apply in Australia as the journalist are free to record and click pictures of the celebrities. Kohli urged the journalist to delete the images and videos of his kids, but asked her to keep his solo ones. He was also seen shaking hands with the journalists upon getting assurance that they were not filming his kids. Now, a Nine Sports journalist has lashed out at Kohli, labelling the former India captain as a "bully". He slammed Kohli for "berating...

Shastri Lauds Bumrah For "Single Handedly" Keeping India In Series vs Aus

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri believes the Rohit Sharma-led side was justified in celebrating on avoiding the follow-on during the rain-hit third Test against Australia in Brisbane, which led to the five-match series being locked at 1-1. On Day Four of the match at the Gabba, Akash Deep sliced a Pat Cummins delivery over the gully for a boundary, which helped India avoid the follow-on, leading to jubilant celebrations in the dressing room by captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli. While many in the Australian camp were surprised by it, Shastri felt there was nothing bad about it. “You should celebrate. It required a lot of character from the last pair with 35-36 runs needed. That celebration showed they knew the importance of that effort within the dressing room in the context of the series.” “It's one thing following-on, it's one thing then again being 2-3 down as opposed to, you going ahead and rattling the Australian top-order. It is fully j...

So, after Ashwin decided to bid goodbye to an illustrious cricket career, Prithi revealed in a long emotional post about what it was to see one of the greatest cricketers of the generation from such close quarters. Ashwin decided to retire from international cricket with two Tests left in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.  "It has been a blurry two days for me. I have been thinking about what I can say.. Do I put this down as a tribute to my all time favorite cricketer ? Maybe I'll just take the partner angle? Or maybe a love letter from a fan girl? I guess this is a little bit of all of it," Prithi Narayanan wrote in an Instagram post. "When I saw Ashwins PC, I thought of small and big moments. Many many memories over the last 13-14 years. Harbhajan Clears Air On Reported Rift With Ashwin, Says 'If People Make...'

India's spin legend Ravichandran Ashwin called time on his international cricket career on Wednesday. It came as a shocking announcement from Ashwin, who too even felt that "there's still a bit of cricket left" in him. After the player's retirement, another great spinner from India, Harbhajan Singh heaped praises on the bowler. He also cleared air on the rumoured rift between him and Ashwin. Harbhajan stated there is nothing wrong between the two. He added that his statements on social media are twisted to make it look like that he has a problem with Ashwin. "I read social media only as much as I need to. If there is a standoff between me and Ashwin or if there was ever any fight, quarrel or disagreement, I would be the first person to go up to him and ask what the issue is. But it was never like this and it will never be like this because whatever is in his destiny, he will get it and I got whatever was in my destiny. He has been a phenomenal bowler for In...

After Ashwin, More Retirements To Follow? Report Says, "Summer Of 2025..."

After 288 matches and more than 750 wickets, ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin decided to call it quits as far as international cricket is concerned. He signed off with a staggering 537 wickets in 106 Tests, ending his career as India's second-highest wicket-taker in the format after the legendary Anil Kumble (619). Ashwin's retirement announcement came as a shock to many, including star batter Virat Kohli , while India captain Rohit Sharma was aware of the decision before the start of the ongoing series Down Under. However, Ashwin's sudden and abrupt retirement could be the first installment of more such announcements in the near future. According to a report in Cricbuzz , the Indian team is expected to enter a transitional phase, most likely after the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord's in June next year, but only if they reach there. "How much of this decision is planned, voluntary, or subtly influenced is difficult to determine, but the Indian...

"Gavaskar's Suggestions Welcome But...": Kohli's Coach Sends Big Message

Sunil Gavaskar's advice for a struggling Virat Kohli to follow Sachin Tendulkar's epic 241 in Sydney, where he didn't play a single cover drive, was met with disapproval by the current megastar's childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma, who was far from amused by the suggestion. "Sunil Gavaskar has been a great player and his suggestions are always welcomed but I hope he suggests others also about their batting," Sharma, a former Delhi off-spinner, who has coached Kohli since his pre-teen days told PTI on Tuesday. To be fair, Gavaskar, first ever to score 10,000 Test runs and 34 hundreds, has not singled out Kohli but had spoken in detail about players also during his commentary stint. "He has been performing well since 2008. It will be unfair to say that he is out of form on the basis of two innings. He has already scored a hundred in this series. How many players have got a hundred in the series?," Sharma countered, citing his ward's second-innings t...

Uncertainty, Injury, Family's Advice: Behind Ashwin's Retirement Decision

Ravichandran Ashwin 's decision to retire midway through the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 has caught many people by surprise. The 38-year-old called time on an illustrious career on Wednesday, having picked up 537 games in 106 Tests. Now, reports have revealed that Ashwin's decision has been to do with two factors - injury problems and his future in India's Test team. Reportedly, Ashwin was contemplating his retirement prior to the first Test in Perth, but had not finalised his decision yet. Ashwin had informed his family of the retirement decision just the night before. According to a report by The Indian Express , Ashwin's persistent knee problem had forced him to contemplate retirement ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Along with that, Ashwin has also likely taken his decision keeping in mind his future with Team India in Test cricket. Ashwin has played only one out of the three Tests so far in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, seeing himself out of favour for both ...

Watch: Akash Deep Apologises Following Bizarre Exchange With Travis Head

Akash Deep apologised to Travis Head following a bizarre exchange on Day 5 of the third Test match between India and Australia in Brisbane on Wednesday. Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah looked quite confident at the start of the day's play and the former looked to play some aggressive shots against Nathan Lyon . While going for a slog sweep, Akash Deep missed the ball completely and it got stuck inside his pads. He quickly took it away and threw it on the ground. The Indian cricketer did not notice that Travis Head thought he will hand him the ball and that led to a chat with the Australian batter. However, the situation did not turn ugly as Akash Deep apologised and the game moved on. Travis Head ultimately ended up dismissing Akash Deep and ending the Indian innings. Play on day five of the third Test between India and Australia was halted due to lightening around the Gabba after the visitors were bowled out for 260. "Without Ayub we would not have won the game," said Salman. "He was there with the new ball and he set up the game." There were still moments of anxiety for the tourists after Kagiso Rabada had Ayub caught at fine leg with 38 runs still needed. Two more wickets fell before Salman hit the winning boundary with three balls to spare. Heinrich Klaasen made 86 off 97 balls in South Africa's total of 239 for nine but was forced to play more conservatively than usual after the innings stalled...

"If I Get Opportunity...": Star On Potential RCB Captaincy. It's Not Kohli

Rajat Patidar 's international career did not take off as he would have liked, but the Madhya Pradesh batter is confident of "re-creating" the opportunity through domestic matches and don the India jersey again. Patidar's six innings against England earlier this year produced just 63 runs, but the right-hander has shown impressive touch in the first half of the Ranji Trophy and the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. "I enjoyed going to the Test team. But sometimes I feel bad that I missed the opportunity. But it's alright sometimes things don't go your way," Patidar said during an interaction here on Saturday. Patidar has accepted his "failure" and has moved away from that disappointing space. "I think acceptance is the key. You have to accept that there will be failure in the cricketing journey. So, it's important for me to face it and learn from it. "I have just accepted it and I am moving forward. It's a part and parce...

"Bumrah Has Done Most Things Right But...": Shastri Gives Brutal Verdict

Ravi Shastri was left concerned by the inconsistency of India's bowling attack on Day 2 of the third Test match against Australia in Brisbane on Sunday. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah who took five wickets, all India bowlers struggled on a day when Travis Head and Steve Smith ran riot. Australia were 405 for the loss of seven wickets and the former Indian cricket team head coach were left concerned with how badly some of the India bowlers performed. Shastri pointed out that consistency is extremely important for the Indian bowlers when it comes to playing in Australia and added that only Bumrah has "done things right". "They were giving away runs on both sides," he said in an interview with SEN Radio. "Bumrah has done most things right, but I think when you look at the others you think, 'Can they execute?'"
